Ernst Barlach

Modernist bronze plaster sculpture by German artist Ernst Barlach titled "The Reunion"

(or better known as "Das Wiedersehen" in German) which depicts the dramatic reunion of the Apostle

 Thomas and Christ.

Signed "E. Barlach" on the base.  Barlach, born in 1870, was a leading member of German Expressionism.

 He worked as a painter, printmaker, writer, architect and sculptor.

In 1925 he became a member of the Academy to Fine Arts in Munich.

 In 1933 he was admitted as a member to the Peace Class of the military order "Pour le Merite".

In 1937 his works were labeled as "degraded art" by the national socialist. Barlach died in 1938


Barlach's works can be found in many museums throughout the world including:
